Although imperceptible to the human ear, the plants around us create sounds, which vary in function of the season or time of day. If plants’ form of communication is a reaction to their environment – and to humanity – it is possible to draw conclusions about their "state of mind". The artist Alexandra Duvekot (1984, The Netherlands) began researching the sound of plants in 2012, in conjunction with other scientists, philosophers and sound specialists. In this session, she will present "The Plant Orchestra", a performance that includes a musical composition in interaction with diseased plants and a presentation on her research work on the possibility of communication between man and plants.
