(1952, Germany) Karsten Witt studied philosophy and linguistics and was concertmaster and speaker of the German National Youth Orchestra. He was the managing director of the orchestra from 1979-87. In this period he was involved in the foundation of Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and Deutsche Ensemble Akademie. In the 90’s he was General Secretary of Vienna Konzerthaus, president of Wien Modern festival and president of Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. He was Chief Executive of Southbank Centre (Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elisabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery) between 1999 and 2002. He is the Managing Director of Karsten Witt Musik Management in Berlin since 2004. In 2008 he was invited to be Guest Professor for Cultural Management at the Tokyo University.
